Montana Fly Fishing Magazine – Spring 2018

Gravitas Drift Boats is proud to announce that we have been featured in the Montana Fly Fishing Magazine – Spring 2018 issue!  If you are unfamiliar with this publication I strongly suggest you take the time to pull it up online (mtflyfishmag.com) and read some, if not all, of their articles.  They excel at providing both useful and entertaining information regarding the world of fly fishing, gear, and environmental issues that are important to all of us.  Their photography layouts are spectacular and all of their past issues are available to read as well!  If you’d like to read the article about Gravitas Drift Boats it can be found on pages 59-67.  Oh…and did I mention it’s free.  Enjoy!

Enjoy Whatever You Catch…

“It’s called fishing, not catching.”  I really enjoy catching fish and watching others catch fish.  No matter what species or size you’re chasing, enjoy whatever you catch.

Spring Entomology

When the water’s ripping and looks like chocolate milk, it’s still fun to take the family for a walk along the river and dig around for bugs.

The River Beckons….

Well actually, the river is always beckoning.  My wife and I have just returned from a 4-day float on Montana’s gorgeous Smith River.  We were joined by both family and friends, had beautiful spring weather, which is often rare in W. Montana, and all-in-all had a great time.  But Craig, you say, what about accomplishing work in the boat shop?  The timing couldn’t have been better.  Two boats are in the final painting phase and if someone truly wants to press the issue I can respond with “it’s always a good idea to let the paint cure really well.”  I’ve been known to use whatever excuse will get me on the water.

Sound Advice

I can’t remember the number of times that I’ve been told that the boats I’ve built were “too nice” to put in the water.  That comment is both extremely gratifying and frustrating. The following quote sums up my feelings perfectly.

“A ship in port is safe but that’s not what ships are built for.”
